I grew up in a small town, far removed from the world of style, image, or social strategy. There were no lessons on presentation or perception—just work, function, and learning things the hard way. I didn’t start with polish, privilege, or any built-in understanding of how people form judgments about one another.
As a young man, I gradually came to realize something no one ever taught me: long before people hear what you have to say, they form opinions about your trustworthiness, credibility, and competence. Those first impressions often determine which doors open—and which never do—regardless of effort, intent, or ability.
Over time, I saw my own outcomes change as I learned how to make first impressions work for me—opening doors to opportunity and, just as importantly, keeping those doors open. I also came to understand that first impressions aren’t guesswork or vanity. They’re shaped by identifiable signals, grounded in human psychology and behavioral science, and they can be understood and used deliberately.
My work today is built around a simple truth:
I help men 50+ understand how powerful first impressions—grounded in proven science—can be intentionally used to build trust and credibility in their personal, professional, and social lives.
That understanding didn’t come from theory alone. It came from decades of real-world experience. Over four decades, I’ve built a career as an entrepreneur—turning around struggling businesses, launching new ventures, and working in environments where trust and credibility mattered immediately. Along the way, I developed a reputation for versatility, insight, and the ability to connect with people quickly when it counted.
The Gentleman’s Edge brings together those experiences, along with research and observation, into a practical guide for men navigating modern life after fifty. This work isn’t about pretending to be someone you’re not, chasing trends, or seeking approval. It’s about understanding how first impressions actually work—and learning how to use that knowledge ethically and intentionally.
I don’t claim to have every answer. But I do understand how trust is formed, how credibility is earned, and how small, often overlooked details can quietly shape how others respond to us. My goal is simple: to help men align who they are with how they’re perceived—so their effort has the chance to be fully recognized.
My writing and commentary have appeared in more than 100 published articles, including contributions to the digital edition of Men’s Health. I’ve co-written a column with the Chief Medical Officer of WebMD, had my work recognized in the U.S. Congressional Record, and authored The Small Biz Guide, which earned unanimous five-star reviews. I’ve also founded and led media and content platforms that reached millions, including The Southern Voice and Rock Stars Talk, a podcast that climbed to #3 nationally in the U.S. My work helping men understand the science behind trust, credibility, and perception has been featured in national media including Fox, ABC, CBS, NBC, the Associated Press, and Digital Journal.
